Restaurant Review: The House of the Rising Sun, Shrewsbury

When I went home for the weekend, me and my family decided to go out for Japanese food,  we are all Yo! Sushi lovers (read my post about it here), but there aren’t many Japanese places in Shropshire to go for a dinner out.
The House of the Rising Sun is a newly refurbished restaurant in Shrewsbury with a bar area and some tables downstairs and a restaurant upstairs. Inside it has a really modern vibe, raw wood and hanging iron light fixtures. It’s rare to find a great restaurant with a really cool atmosphere, somewhere you can stay for cocktails after, so I loved it before we had even eaten. It really appeals to a 20-something market and the overfriendly and young (handsome and impeccably well dressed) waiting staff added to this.

We ordered off the menu in a tapas style as recommended and I loved this as we got to taste so many things, but you can order in a traditional starter and main style also.

Here is what we ate:

Sushi and Sashimi platter
Corn-fed chicken and spring onion and Smoked duck California rolls
Corn-fed chicken and spring onion California rolls
Prawns, noodles and wasabi Bombay and Scallops in a Parmesan crumb
Seared tuna salad nicoise
Crispy belly pork, sticky sauce
Seared teriyaki beef, spring onions

We also had chilli and lime tempura squid, but when it came we were so hungry we just dived in and I forgot to take any photos!

The only downside was that we did have to wait a while for our food and drinks, it was a busy Friday night so this wasn’t unusual, but we were recommended to order in a tapas style, but the food was brought out either one plate at a time or 5 at once.

It wasn’t too expensive at all, the quality of food and general atmosphere made it a fantastic meal out and I can’t wait to go again and try different things.
